Master every feature of Memory Loom with these systematic walkthroughs.
Get up and running in 5 minutes
Click 'Add to Chrome' from the Chrome Web Store. The Memory Loom icon will appear in your browser toolbar.
Click the Memory Loom icon in your toolbar, or right-click on any page and select 'Open Memory Loom'. The side panel opens on the right side of your browser.
On first use, the semantic search AI model downloads (~30 seconds). You'll see a loading indicator. This only happens once - after that it's instant.
Click the Bookmark button to save the current page, or click New to create a note. Your memory is now saved and searchable!
Type a natural language query in the search box, like 'how to configure authentication'. Memory Loom understands meaning, not just keywords.
Master all 6 ways to capture information
Click the Bookmark button in the side panel. Captures URL, title, and up to 20,000 characters of page content. Hero images are saved if Google Drive is connected.
Click the New button to create a blank note. Use Markdown formatting for headers, lists, code blocks, and more. Perfect for ideas, meeting notes, or personal knowledge.
Select text on any webpage, then either: (1) Right-click and choose 'Save to Memory Loom', or (2) Press Ctrl+Shift+S (Cmd+Shift+S on Mac). The selection is saved with auto-generated title and source URL.
Click the Paste button to capture clipboard content. Works with text and images. Titles are auto-generated. Images become attachments if Google Drive is connected.
Click the Upload button to import files. Supports Markdown (.md) files imported as-is, PDF (.pdf) with text extraction, and Word (.docx) documents. Original files are kept as attachments with Google Drive.
Drag images, files (up to 10MB), or selected text directly onto a memory card to attach it. Drop images from web pages or files from your computer. Requires Google Drive for file storage.
Find anything instantly with AI-powered search
Type natural language in the search box. Memory Loom uses AI to understand meaning. 'authentication best practices' finds memories about OAuth, JWT, passwords, even if those exact words aren't used.
Click any tag on a memory to filter results. Only memories with that tag are shown. The tag filter appears above the search box.
Use tag filters with search for precise results. First click a tag to filter, then type a query. Results will have both the tag AND match your search.
Click the 'Q&A' tab at the top of the side panel. This mode is optimized for questions rather than browsing.
Type a question like 'What is the API endpoint for users?' and press Enter. Memory Loom finds relevant memories and extracts the specific answer passage.
Every answer shows its source memory. Click the link to see the full context. Answers come directly from your content - not AI-generated fabrications.
Separate your memories into distinct collections
Workspaces are separate collections of memories. Each workspace is completely isolated - search only finds memories in the current workspace. Use them for Work, Personal, Projects, or Clients.
The current workspace name appears in the header dropdown. Click it to see all your workspaces.
Click the workspace dropdown, then 'Manage Workspaces', then '+ New Workspace'. Enter a name, optionally choose an icon and color, then click Create.
Click the workspace dropdown and select the workspace you want to switch to. Your memories will update to show only that workspace's content.
Click the move icon (arrow) on any memory card. Select the destination workspace from the dropdown. The memory moves instantly.
In Manage Workspaces, click the delete button on any workspace (except Default). All memories in that workspace will be deleted permanently.
Edit, format, and manage your saved content
Click the edit button (pencil icon) on any memory, or select a memory and press Ctrl+E (Cmd+E on Mac). The rich text editor opens.
Modify the title at the top. Edit content in the main area. The editor supports rich text formatting with a toolbar.
Type Markdown directly: # Heading, **bold**, *italic*, `code`, ```code blocks```, - bullet lists, 1. numbered lists, [link](url). Formatting renders as you type.
Press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on Mac) to save immediately. Content also auto-saves periodically. The memory's version number increments with each save.
Press Escape to exit edit mode without saving recent changes. Any auto-saved changes will persist.
Expand a memory to see metadata: creation date, last updated, version number, view count, and source URL (if applicable).
Attach and view files with your memories
Attachments require Google Drive. Click the gear icon to open Settings, then connect your Google Drive account. Files are stored in your account only.
Drag and drop files onto any memory card. Supports images, PDFs, and other files up to 10MB each. Multiple files can be attached to a single memory.
Drag images directly from web pages onto a memory. The image is downloaded and stored in your Google Drive.
Attached files appear as thumbnails on the memory card. Click any thumbnail to open the attachment viewer.
In the attachment viewer, PDFs display with page navigation controls. Use the arrows or page input to move between pages.
In the attachment viewer, click the download button to save the file locally. Click outside the viewer or press Escape to close.
Keep your data safe and synced across devices
Open Settings (gear icon), find the Sync section, and click 'Connect Google Drive'. Sign in with your Google account and grant permission.
Once connected, sync happens automatically every 5 minutes. Your memories, workspaces, and attachments are backed up to your Google Drive.
Force an immediate sync from Settings. Click the sync button to push local changes to Google Drive right away.
Install Memory Loom on another device and connect the same Google Drive account. Your memories sync automatically.
Settings shows your last sync time and any sync errors. If sync fails, check your internet connection and try manual sync.
To stop syncing, click 'Disconnect' in Settings. Local data remains intact. Reconnect anytime to resume syncing.
Power user tips and hidden features
When viewing a memory, look for 'Related Memories' showing semantically similar content. This knowledge graph helps discover connections in your saved knowledge.
Open Settings and select 'Open in Window' to launch Memory Loom in a standalone popup. Resize and position it independently from your browser.
Use the sort dropdown above the memory list. Options: Last Activity (default), Recently Created, Recently Updated, Recently Viewed, Most Viewed. Preference is remembered.
Memory Loom auto-generates categories based on content patterns. Similar memories are grouped together. Categories update as you add more content.
Ctrl+Shift+S (save selection), Ctrl+S (save in editor), Ctrl+E (toggle edit), Escape (close dialogs). Customize shortcuts at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Check storage usage in Settings. Local storage is limited (~5GB). Delete old memories or connect Google Drive for unlimited attachment storage.
